1985 – The Beginning
Garrison Methodist Presbyterian Church began in 1985, when a small group of believers from Garrison Estate in Takoradi realised the need for a local fellowship. Meeting first under a tree and later in a rented community hall, the early congregation was just a handful of families seeking to worship together and support one another.
1992 – First Building Established
As membership grew, the church community pooled resources and formally acquired land in Garrison Estate. With the help of dedicated volunteers and generous donations, the first modest wooden chapel was constructed — a humble yet powerful sign of commitment and faith.
2001 – Expansion and New Sanctuary
By the turn of the millennium, the congregation had outgrown the wooden structure. In 2001, after several fundraising efforts, the church began building a more permanent sanctuary made of concrete and laterite. The new building was completed in late 2002 and dedicated in January 2003 with a joyful commissioning service.
2008–2015 – Deepening Ministries & Community Impact
The church began several ministries — youth fellowship, women’s ministry, Sunday school for children, outreach to the poor, and community health/education drives. These ministries helped the church become a centre of spiritual growth and community support in Garrison Estate and neighbouring communities.
2020 – Present: A Vibrant, Growing Community
Today, Garrison Methodist Presbyterian Church has grown into a vibrant community of over 200 active members. With regular worship services, Sunday school, youth and women groups, outreach programmes, and community events, the church continues to strive toward its vision: growing believers who love God and serve their neighbours.
The journey of Garrison Methodist Presbyterian Church is a story of faith, hope, and community. From humble beginnings under a tree to a growing sanctuary and dynamic ministries, every chapter has been written in trust, commitment, and love.
